Chinese Medicine

In recent years there has been a massive revival of interest in Chinese Medicine, one of natural therapies, both in recognition of their tremendous value and as a move away from the side-effects of conventional medicine. The key to the success of Chinese Medicine is that they take into account the mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of a person, as well as the physical aspects of health.

Chinese medicine believes that optimal health is dependent on the body’s Qi moving in a balanced way through meridian or energy pathways beneath the skin. Qi is an energy force and comprised of two parts, Yin and Yang. Yin is signified by female attributes, passive, dark, cold, moist and night. Yang is signified by male attributes, active, light, warm, dry and day. A man is the combination of his mother (Yin) and his father (Yang). He contains qualities of both: This is the universal symbol describing the constant flow of Yin and Yang forces. Harmony of this union means health, while disharmony leads to disease.

When energy pathways become obstructed, deficient, excessive, or just unbalanced by a number of factors including stress, infections, weather conditions, trauma and emotional state such as grief, anger fear or anxiety, Yin and Yang are said to be thrown out of balance. At your first consultation, you will be asked about your current symptom and also your tongue and pulse will be examined in order to identify the underlying pattern of disharmony, and then the most effective treatment to restore the balance. Chinese medicine is therefore to treat the whole body rather than just the symptoms. Because of this may take some time to generate the benefits.
